OK kids, here's the Linux portion of my site (note the spiffy graphic). At any rate, you need to be a reasonably hard core geek to want to run Linux. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, but if you think you're gonna throw it on a machine and not have to fiddle with it quite a bit - you'll be very disappointed. |
Yes indeed, that registration number above belongs to me. Kinda like a badge of honor. I earned it, dammit! : ) Linux requires a lot of time and effort to get working properly, and God forbid your hardware isn't supported. Having said that, if you're willing to put forth the time and effort to learn how to use it, it'll reward you with a very stable and fast operating system. Windows it ain't - and that's both good and bad. You have been warned..... |
Now, there's a million sites on the Internet telling you the Joys of Linux. Why the hell does there need to be another one, you ask? I'll tell you why. Unlike a lot of other sites, I'm not going to preach the Microsoft is Evil, Linux will overcome gospel at you. No, I'm a Windows type of guy, basically. I don't love Windows, but realistically it's the most available OS, with a boatload of applications written for it. It also doesn't require you to be ultra-knowledgeable about computers to run it. But I still think that Linux is still a pretty dang spiffy OS, albeit one that requires a little more user input, so to speak. If you think you're up for it, then by all means give it a try. Ready? OK, then on with the goods...... |
